Supervision needed
Comment on "Multinationals blacklisted for pollution" (China Daily,
August 21)
I think the Chinese government should also go after the local companies
that pollute.
They are not doing any good for the country or the people.

The government should strengthen supervision of multinational companies.
We have to admit that these companies can help local economic development
and employment. But if these companies violate Chinese laws, they should
be punished.

Ensuring safety
Comment on "Police warn of Olympic hijack threat" (China Daily, August 21)
We must take the warning seriously because terrorism is an international
threat.
We should appeal for international cooperation to ensure the safety of
our people.

Not migrants' fault
Comment on Hong Liang's column "Side effects of long-term economic trend"
(China Daily, August 21)
Migrant workers still earn little, but contribute much. They are not the
ones driving up inflation.
Any rise in their average wages will have little impact on price
increases. Do not blame the migrant workers.

Change attitude
Comment on "High hopes for Beijing's bicycle rental scheme" (China Daily,
August 21)
It is good news that a new bicycle rental scheme will reinforce Beijing's
status as the capital of "Kingdom of Bikes". But more has to be done:
First, reduce the aggression car drivers show toward bicycle riders. It
is getting more and more dangerous to ride a bike in the city.
Second, we need a new attitude toward bicycles and bicycle riders in
China.
When one tries to park a bike outside a hotel, a department store or a
bank, security guards become hysterical and shout at riders to move on.
In modern China a bicycle seems to be a symbol of poverty and
backwardness. A new way of thinking is necessary.
