Carlyle fund invests in China and India

Private-equity firm Carlyle Group L.P. sealed two new investment deals in
China and India worth US$45 million, the Financial Times reported on its
website.

Under the deals, the company's Asia Growth Capital Group will put US$25
million into Credit Orienwise, an intermediary between Chinese state
banks and private companies, and US$20 million into Claris Lifesciences,
an Indian pharmaceuticals company. The deals are expected to be announced
shortly, the newspaper said.

Claris already sells to 65 countries but to expand its sales in the US
and Europe it will need new capital.
