Farmer pictures for the elderly for Chongyang Festival

Zhang Yuqin, a farmer picture artist in Shandong's Rizhao, painted in her
studio and rearranged her farmer pictures on Oct. 9. In Shandong's
Rizhao, which is one of the first cities honored as "hometown of China's
modern folk painting" by the Ministry of Culture, farmer pictures with
the theme of life of the elderly started to become popular as the
Chongyang Festival (to drive away diseases and in some areas to
commemorate the deceased, one of the most common activities on this day
is to climb mountains) approaches. This type of pictures conforms to the
style that the elderly appreciate and thereby becomes one of the best
gifts for Chongyang Festival.

"Most beautiful places in China" unveiled

The list of "the most beautiful places in China" chosen and sponsored by
Chinese National Geography magazine was unveiled on Oct. 9. Xiamen's
Gulang Island was crowned No. 1 in the list elected by experts' academy
group.
